Services We Offer
I offer a full range of Wildlife Ranger and Woodland Management services for woodlands and forestry which includes, but not limited to the items below;
Deer and other Wildlife Management
I can provide and implement complete wildlife and deer management plans to meet most objectives, especially those supporting governement grant requirements, e.g. Grey squirrel and Deer Management. I follow the CIEEM and Forestry England guidance in delivering these plans. They are tailored to meet our client’s requirement and to meet the requirements of the various government grants.
I am principally a wildlife biologist focusing on deer and other mammal species. I have become specialised in dealing with disease, mostly bTB, in deer populations. My wildlife management philosophy comes from the principle of only using lethal control as a measured resort once other options have been explored.
Manage and Protect Woodland Wildlife
I can advise and assist in ensuring woodland management and forestry operations comply with the regulations for protecting wildlife species and habitats. I can carry out Operational Site Assessments following government guidelines and advice on species specific good practise to be followed and where this is not viable, any license requirements which may be required as mitigation.
Woodland Design Wildlife considerations
I can advise and help with the planning of any new or existing woodlands to incorporate rides and glades which maximise biodiversity for wildlife and enable safe and effective areas for control of species having a negative impact. Qualified and insured in chainsaw use and application of pesticides (only as a last resort), we can create and maintain rides and glades to maintain the maximum conversation value of these areas to support the woodland management plan. NPTC qualifications are held for chainsaw and pesticide applications. I can use GIS systems to provide updates to woodland maps.
Woodland Management
I can deliver a range of wildlife and woodland management services, including deer and other wildlife control including culling, felling and thinning of trees, dealing with windblown trees, fencing and gate repairs, ash die back removal (in accordance with FISA guidance), rides and deer lawn maintenance/improvement, tree planting, brush cutting, knapsack spraying and weedwiping. I specialise in low impact woodland management techniques, aiming to keep machinery use to a minimum. Conscious of the costs involved we work to budgets and seek ways to maximise the returns from the work undertaken.
GIS and Digital Mapping
Using QGIS and supporting resources, we can map and analyse your land for a variety of attributes and use it too help solve a various problems. For example, I can calculate aspect, highlight land by slope criteria, drainage points, mapping of rides and lawns, calculating areas of land for each use, georeferencing of Ariel photos.
