Capreolus Ecology Ltd. delivers practical, evidence-led solutions for deer and woodland conservation. Led by Simon Powne, MRSB, a wildlife biologist and field-based land manager, we help estates, conservation organisations, and landowners balance biodiversity and land use.
Simon’s background is unique — blending ecological expertise with structured operational leadership. He holds an MSc in Wildlife Biology & Conservation, is a Chartered Member of the Royal Society of Biology (MRSB), and holds practical land management qualifications including DSC1/2 and NPTC.
Before moving into conservation, Simon served 18 years in the Royal Navy as an Engineering Officer. His career included high-responsibility roles in fleet engineering, training command teams, and a liaison assignment embedded with U.S. Special Operations Forces during Operation Telic — a role requiring discretion, coordination, and leadership in high-stakes environments. That experience now underpins his calm, mission-focused approach to field-based conservation and wildlife management.
Now based in Minehead, Somerset, Simon designs and delivers impactful wildlife projects — from deer impact assessments to woodland restoration and bTB disease response. He is experienced in working with diverse stakeholders — including landowners, foresters, NGOs, and public agencies — to deliver practical, scalable solutions.
